Last spring, a robin built a nest right outside my bedroom window.
Every morning I’d wake up and check on it.
First there were eggs. Then tiny birds that looked too fragile to survive anything.
I watched the parents come and go with food, sometimes dozens of times a day.
When the little ones finally left the nest, I felt ridiculously emotional.
Here I was, a grown adult, getting attached to a family of birds.
But I had watched a small piece of life unfold right in front of me.
It made me realize how much is happening around us that we never notice.
After that, the message of this site felt especially meaningful.
There’s a whole world of living things carrying on their lives alongside ours.
We’re neighbors on this planet, even when we don’t think of it that way.
